Subject: Department of Interior, Interior Business Center (IBC) Data Breach

A number of FAA employees received a letter dated May 16, 2023, from the U.S. Department of Interior, Interior Business Center (IBC). IBC is a shared services provider of HR technology and payroll-related services for the FAA, as well as other Federal agencies. The letter described a data breach incident that was determined to be the result of a changed security protocol and was not a cyber-attack.

The FAA Offices of Human Resource Management and Information and Technology Services are aware of the incident and are in communication with IBC officials to review processes and safety protocols.

The data was potentially accessed by no more than 22 trusted and authorized users, who are regular HR employees in other federal agencies and trained in the secure handling of personally identifiable information (PII) data, therefore the risk of your data being misused is low. In addition, these users verified that they either did not access PII data and/or fully deleted the data from their systems.

If you received one of these notifications, please follow the instructions in the guidance provided to take appropriate precautions regarding your credit files.

The FAA is committed to working with IBC to ensure the safeguarding of employee PII. You are encouraged to contact IBC Customer Support Center at 1-866-FOR-1-CSC (1-866-367-1272) or email (FPPS_Helpdesk@ios.doi.gov) if you have any questions.
