Reasonable Accommodation Process Updates

Federal Aviation Administration

May 19, 2021

Effective immediately, ALL Reasonable Accommodation (RA) requests should be directed to your local servicing area Civil Rights Office (ACR) for processing. Please note: requests for FAA headquarters employees should be directed to the Eastern Service Area ACR Office. For requests requiring medical documentation, managers should refrain from requesting or reviewing any medical documentation submitted in connection to the RA request. ACR will request, review, and provide disability determination on behalf of managers.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has updated its Procedures for Processing Reasonable Accommodation Requests from Job Applicants and DOT Employees with Disabilities (DOT Order 1011.1B).

The FAA is in the process of reviewing and updating its procedures for Processing Accommodation Requests for People with Disabilities (FAA Order 1400.12) to be in compliance with DOT Order 1011.1B.

For questions, please contact your local servicing area Civil Rights Office or the FAA National People with Disabilities Program, Michael Looney at Michael.f.looney@faa.gov.
