PIV Card Renewal Information

What should I do if my PIV card is expiring or damaged?

First, you don’t need to come into an FAA ID Office or any other FAA facility to renew or replace your PIV card. During the COVID-19 pandemic, employees and contractors are encouraged not to come to an FAA facility just to receive PIV card services. Here are some of the workarounds we have in place:

ASH and AIT have worked together to allow employees to access the FAA network without a PIV Card. To use this option, contact the MyIT Service Center at 1-844-FAA-MyIT (322-6948) or helpdesk@FAA.gov and ask the representative to place you into the “Long Term PIV Exempt” group. This exemption allows you to access your FAA computer and network resources with your FAA User Name and FAA Network Password, instead of your FAA PIV Card. Make sure you know your FAA User Name and FAA Network Password before calling. Employees can wait to renew their PIV card until such time they report back to work in an FAA facility.

If you are an essential employee who has already been reporting to work in an FAA facility that has an ID Media Office or PIV Trusted Agent you can proceed with the normal PIV renewal process. Approximately 60 days in advance, you will receive an email advising that your PIV Card is set to expire. Simply follow the directions in the email message to apply for your card. The new PIV Card will automatically be ordered when approved by your sponsor and you will be notified by email when the PIV Card has been delivered. At that time you will need to make arrangements with your ID Media Office or PIV Trusted Agent to physically visit the site to pick up and activate your PIV Card.

What should I do if I receive an email that my PIV card certificates are expiring?

If you receive an email notifying you that your PIV card certificates are expiring, please follow the instructions in the email to renew your certificates. You can complete certificate renewal while teleworking and do not need to report to a FAA facility.

You should contact your Trusted Agent directly to determine their operating status. Visit https://piv.faa.gov to find your Trusted Agent’s contact information.

I'm having trouble logging on to my laptop using my PIV Card. What should I do?

Contact the ASH Support Desk at 202-267-4930, who will be able to determine if the problem is related to your PIV Card. If the issue is not related to your PIV Card contact the FAA Help Desk at 1-844-FAA-MYIT or helpdesk@faa.gov.
