Public Input Informs Future Opportunities

The SunShot Initiative has announced two opportunities for researchers, policymakers, financiers, and solar professionals to give DOE their feedback through a request for information (RFI).

  • A new RFI asks about the feasibility of reaching $2 per watt installed cost for residential solar. The RFI seeks feedback on the actions, timeline, and inducements required to drive down the installed price of solar energy for residential photovoltaic systems less than 8 kilowatts in size.
  • The Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies (SEEDS) RFI poses questions related to new mathematical models of technological evolution and the innovation process that can guide the acceleration of novel solar energy technologies.

Responses to these RFIs must be submitted by March 28 and April 6, 2012, respectively.

Small Business Grant Webinar

On Monday, March 19, DOE will host a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs webinar on grant opportunities for a range of renewable energy technologies as well as buildings and advanced manufacturing. The Solar Program, which is seeking proposals aligned with SunShot Initiative goals, will present topics of interest and respond to questions. Participants are encouraged to register in advance.

SunShot Profile: Fellow Highlight

Carmen Cioc does not shy away from a challenge. This SunShot Junior Fellow, who is helping to lead the SBIR/STTR webinar mentioned above, is pursuing her second master's degree and working to make solar energy a viable economic solution that is accessible to everyone.
