Federal Agency Use of Energy Savings Performance Contracting Has Banner Year for Private Investment

FEMP recently announced that during fiscal year 2018, 10 federal agencies made a record investment of more than $800 million using the Federal Energy Management Program’s indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) energy savings performance contract (ESPC) funding mechanism to pursue 23 energy efficiency and water conservation projects. This is the largest annual investment in FEMP's ESPC program history and will generate total guaranteed energy and water cost savings of almost $1.7 billion.

REopt Lite Adds New Optimization Capabilities with Wind, Custom Rate Tariff, Critical Load Builder, and User Dashboard Features

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has released new capabilities for its REopt Lite web tool, including a new wind optimization module, custom utility rate tariffs, a critical building load profile builder, and a user dashboard. Building owners and energy managers can use REopt Lite to evaluate the economic viability of distributed wind alongside PV and battery storage at a site, helping to optimize energy cost savings and resilience for commercial buildings. REopt Lite development is supported by FEMP.

FEMP's 2018 Federal Energy and Water Management Awards Presented at the U.S. Institute of Peace

On October 23, FEMP hosted its 38th annual Federal Energy and Water Management Awards at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. Awards were presented to 30 individuals and teams throughout the federal government, along with their private sector partners, who developed and implemented outstanding cost-effective projects and programs related to energy and water cost savings, optimized energy and water use, and the use of on-site renewable energy and energy storage projects at federal facilities. The awards were presented by Kathleen Hogan, DOE's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), along with Alexander Fitzsimmons, EERE's Chief of Staff, and Leslie Nicholls, FEMP's Strategic Director.
