In 2018 the Department of Energy (DOE) is bringing together the Energy Exchange and Better Buildings Summit in Cleveland, Ohio from August 21-23, creating the largest and most exciting DOE training, trade show, and peer event of the year.
More than 3,000 thought leaders from the federal, private, education, and state and local government sectors will convene to accelerate the adoption of energy/water efficiency, integrated resilience, emerging and secure technologies, and replicable renewable energy solutions. The combined Energy Exchange and Better Buildings Summit will feature technical training sessions, interactive panels, and learning opportunities from public and private sector market leaders.

Hotels and Travel
Blocks of rooms have been reserved at 13 hotels near the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland. Rates are set at government per diem for public sector attendees, and are offered at reduced rates for government contractors and the private sector. Federal Utility Partnership Working Group Seminar Registration is Now Open
Registration is now open for the 2018 Spring Federal Utility Partnership Working Group (FUPWG) Seminar. The early registration discounted fee of $175.00 ends March 19!
Hosted by FEMP and Tennessee Valley Authority, the FUPWG Seminar establishes partnerships and fosters communication between federal agencies, specific sites, and utilities to implement cost-effective energy efficiency and water conservation projects to help agencies improve operations, upgrade infrastructure, and save taxpayer dollars.

Call for Nominations is Open for the 2018 Federal Energy and Water Management Awards
Each year the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) sponsors the Federal Energy and Water Management Awards to honor outstanding federal agency achievements in energy, water, and fleet management. Please visit FEMP's Federal Awards webpage for more information and to download the 2018 Criteria and Guidelines document.
All nominations must be submitted into FEMP's Awards Nomination website by April 26, 2018. FEMP recommends consulting the Agency Coordinator for your parent agency to inquire about any internal agency deadlines that may apply to your nomination, potentially in advance of FEMP's deadline.
FEMP will offer two identical one-hour WebEx presentations that will provide an overview of the 2018 awards criteria and eligibility requirements, as well as tips on how to prepare nomination narratives. Introduction to UESCs Webinar
Live Webinar: February 21, 2018
This webinar provides attendees with an overview of the contracting options and services available from their local utility companies to engineer, finance, and install cost-effective energy and water savings projects. This training is appropriate for federal facility/energy managers, procurement specialists, utility company representatives, and representatives from other interested organizations. Participants will walk through the steps of the typical project process from the audit phase to commissioning the equipment. The webinar introduces participants to UESCs and helps them determine if this alternative financing opportunity is right for them. It also provides them with information about a variety of no-cost resources available to support their UESC project efforts through FEMP and the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Areawide Contract Program.

eProject Builder Demonstrations
Live Webinars: February 23, 2018 and March 20, 2018
FEMP and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) will present an introduction/demonstration session on eProject Builder, the ESPC project tracking and database system that is required as part of DOE's indefinite delivery indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts. The sessions will be interactive, with both a call-in phone line and webinar portion. While all are welcome, the training will be particularly valuable for energy service companies and federal representatives involved in projects that have chosen the energy service company (ESCO) and are in preliminary assessment or investment grade audit stage of their projects. Participants will learn about the benefits of using ePB and get a walk-through of project data entry, tracking, and reporting processes. The next available dates and times are:

Distributed Wind Workshop

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Wind Energy Technologies Office, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is hosting a Distributed Wind Workshop for federal agencies.
Distributed wind systems can produce electricity for on-site or local consumption. Close to 1 GW of distributed wind has been installed in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for homes, businesses; military sites; manufacturing plants; and local, state, and federal facilities.
This workshop is designed to educate federal agency stakeholders about distributed wind in general, its potential applications, the economics of wind projects, and how to deploy distributed wind at federal sites.

Energy Savings Performance Contracting Three-Day Training Workshop: Includes a New Module on Energy Resiliency
March 6-8, 2018

This newly updated three-day workshop educates attendees on how to implement energy and water projects through an ESPC. It includes a new module about including resiliency in your ESPC, as well as a basic introduction to and new requirements of the latest U.S. Department of Energy indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract.
Training sections include task order ordering procedures, contractor selection, energy saving technologies, building energy resiliency into your task order, measurement and verification, understanding task order schedules, pricing and financing aspects of the project, and post award contract administration. Breakout sessions focusing on technical and contracting topics provide trainees with an opportunity to learn by doing.

Advanced Utility Energy Service Contracts Training
April 17-18, 2018
Nashville, Tennessee
Used for small and large projects, a utility energy service contract (UESC) is a limited-source contract between a federal agency and serving utility for energy management and demand-reduction services. Federal sites benefit from UESCs by meeting federal mandates, resolving site-specific challenges such as replacing aging equipment with new more energy-efficient equipment, and reducing operating costs. This two-day training examines strategies and methods used by experienced contracting officers and their technical teams—from project development to contract award and post-acceptance. On Demand eTraining
FEMP offers self-paced on demand eTraining courses and webinars to help federal agency personnel develop core competencies and comply with energy efficiency, renewable energy, water management and sustainability requirements. Certified FEMP trainings award continuing education units (CEUs).
