School Ambassador Fellowship Opportunity The Department’s School Ambassador Fellowship (SAF) application window for the 2022-2023 cohort opened October 15, 2021. The SAF is designed to improve educational outcomes for students by leveraging the expertise of school-based practitioners in the creation, dissemination, and evaluation of national education policy. The SAF offers two separate 9-month tracks. The first is for a full-time appointment where you work for the Department, being involved in policy development and program implementation. The second is a part-time fellowship, which allows educators to maintain their regular school responsibilities at home while also participating in the SAF experience. STEM educators are encouraged to apply. For more information and to apply, visit the School Ambassador Fellowship Website. The application window closes January 14, 2022.
New Program Evaluation Tool Kit Program evaluation is important for assessing the implementation and outcomes of local, state, and federal programs. Designed to be used in a variety of education settings, including STEM, the Regional Education Laboratories (REL) Central’s Program Evaluation Toolkit provides resources and tools to support users in contributing to evaluations of their own programs. The toolkit comprises a series of eight modules that begin at the planning stages of an evaluation and progress to the presentation of findings. Resources in the toolkit will help users create a logic model, develop evaluation questions, identify data sources, develop data collection instruments, conduct basic analyses, and disseminate findings.

COVID-19 Data Dashboard The U.S. Department of Education, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), launched a new COVID-19 data dashboard to help the public keep track of the impact of COVID-19 on K-12 schools. The dashboard aggregates in one location data on pediatric COVID-19 cases, youth vaccination rates, and numbers on schools that are operating in-person, hybrid or remote. Data will be updated each week, and where possible, the information is presented geographically so that educators and families can understand the impact of COVID in their communities. This is the first time such data will be presented in a single location to the public.
