This edition features stories of three DOT SBIR awardees who are taking technology developed during Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) SBIR awards and applying them to new types of problems and contexts.
Wi-Tronix, which conducted SBIR research on automated railroad crossing infrastructure inspection, has partnered with Florida-based Brightline to develop automated tresspasser detection technology.
And MTRI and VisioStack, which both developed railroad track inspections technologies using uncrewed aircraft systems in their respective FRA SBIR awards, are now both adapting their technologies to the unique challenges of public transportation environments like subway tunnels through Phase III awards funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
