Mastering Highway Performance Monitoring Through Data Collection
The Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) is essential for evaluating and reporting the condition and performance of the Nation's roadways. Join NHI for a 2-day workshop designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the HPMS, developed in conjunction with the latest software version and the updated HPMS Field Manual.
During NHI’s Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS): Concepts, Data Collection & Reporting Requirements (FHWA-NHI 151056) Instructor-Led Training, course participants will explore key elements of the HPMS Data Model, data collection methods, geo-referencing techniques used for analysis, and reporting requirements that State DOTs must follow.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to describe the scope and background of HPMS, interpret data collection and reporting guidelines, and understand the role of sampled data within the system.
Participants should have some familiarity with topics like GIS, traffic data, pavement data, and statistical sampling, although no formal prerequisites are required.

“Becoming a certified NHI Instructor and teaching NHI courses has been a highlight in my career. Teaching transportation professionals is extremely rewarding, knowing you are helping them learn and grow in their careers. It is hard to describe the feeling you get when someone you taught thanks you for helping them succeed.
Teaching participants from around the country also gives me the opportunity to learn from them. I take away something from every class I teach, helping me to become a better instructor and being more successful in my own career.”
– Ted Burch, Division Administrator, FHWA MI Division, and NHI Instructor of Excellence, 2023
