Your Road to Success: Training Tips and Best Practices for Instructors
As NHI Instructors, refreshing and enhancing your teaching skills is strategic and smart, whether you are new to teaching or a classroom veteran. NHI provides resources to help you continue delivering world-class instruction.
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) comprehensively builds Instructor skills, while the Masterclass offers tools, tips, and techniques for increasing learner engagement.

Your Voice Is Important: Join a Focus Group to Share Instructor Feedback
Listening to participants’ feedback is important, but NHI also values the instructors’ perspective. Your unique insights and experience in the classroom are critical to improving our courses, refining content, and ensuring learners receive the highest quality instruction. To gather your input, NHI uses the Kirkpatrick Model, a widely recognized training evaluation tool, to collect your feedback, ideas, experiences, and concerns.

Your invaluable feedback will help to address current questions and mitigate potential issues. Some questions you can expect, include:
- “Which teaching tools or methods have made the biggest impact in your sessions?”
- “How are learners applying NHI course lessons to their work?”
- “What challenges have you faced in delivering content, and how can we better support you?”
To learn more about NHI focus groups, visit NHI’s booth (834) at the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Annual Conference 2025.

Here to Help
Sometimes, filling courses is challenging. Too few learners may be interested, know about it, or have the time. Hosts and instructors are responsible for promoting their course and ensuring learners benefit from a session. NHI helps hosts and instructors fill vacant seats in a course when assistance is needed. NHI will partner with you to boost enrollment to achieve an ideal collaborative learning environment by promoting your course in our network.

You are more than instructors, you are leaders, innovators, and role models for the future of transportation.
