The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today announced it is investing approximately $100.3 million to public transportation supporting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring local transit systems can supplement service and meet increased demands.
These funds were made available through the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, passed by Congress and signed by President Trump.
Planning, capital and operating expenses are eligible for the funding which is apportioned by a formula accounting for stadium capacity and number of matches in each host city. The Federal share for these funds is up to 100 percent and no local match is required. Transit agencies supporting World Cup events must obligate these funds within one fiscal year of the closing of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FTA will host a webinar on Wednesday, March 11, at 2 PM ET to discuss the requirements for funding, eligibility and criteria, and the submission process.
