This year, FTA has partnered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to launch a rail grade crossing safety campaign, which kicks off today, September 4, 2024, and concludes on September 6, 2024.
In 2023, transit reported 624 rail grade crossings collisions and highway-rail grade crossings saw 2,210 incidents. FTA and FMCSA will be sharing resources, best practices and a video for motorists, pedestrians and transit riders to amplify one message: Don’t Get Sidetracked; Obey Signs, Stay Alert, and Expect Trains.
FTA will continue to share resources throughout the week. Together, we can stop track tragedies and save lives.
