Last week, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) published the Fiscal Year 2022 Notice of Funding Opportunity for the Culvert Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) Program. The AOP Program is a competitive annual program that awards grants for projects focused on the replacement, removal, and repair of culverts or weirs that meaningfully restore or improve passage for anadromous fish. FHWA coordinated closely with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration on this notice.
Tribal, state, and local governments will be able to apply for a portion of the $196 million in Fiscal Year 2022 funding currently available through this program. The DOT agencies—FHWA, Federal Railroad Administration, and FTA—will execute these grant agreements. FHWA released additional technical assistance on Bipartisan Infrastructure Law implementation for Tribal governments earlier this year.
Applicants must submit their applications electronically through Grants.gov no later than 11:59 p.m. ET Monday, February 6, 2023. For more information, please visit the FHWA’s official Culvert AOP Program website: FHWA Culvert AOP Program.
