FTA today issued a Dear Colleague letter to the transit industry to highlight accomplishments related to the Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program over the last year. The letter summarizes the successes since the Biden-Harris Administration took office in January 2021, from a record number of CIG grant awards to American Rescue Plan funding disbursed, and notes upcoming changes expected in 2022.
The letter outlines:
- Construction grants awarded to seven projects in Phoenix, AZ, Indianapolis, IN, Albany, NY, Portland, OR, Ogden, UT, Seattle, WA, and Vancouver, WA and five CIG projects that completed construction and opened for service in 2021, including in San Diego, CA, Jacksonville, FL, Charlotte, NC, Reno, NV, and Minneapolis, MN.
- The American Rescue Plan Act’s $1.68 billion in funding for CIG projects to help alleviate the financial challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
- An increase in the number of projects seeking entry into the CIG program (20) compared to 2020.
- Important changes to the CIG and EPD Pilot program as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
