Resources to Advance Driver Education

Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), taking place November 14 to 18, 2022, affords a unique opportunity for every Traffic Incident Management (TIM) professional to make a difference individually and jointly for roadway safety. To facilitate the sharing of CRSW ideas and strategies among State transportation, law enforcement, towing, fire, and emergency medical services representatives as well as agency public information or communications officers, FHWA is hosting three webinars.

Register for the CRSW All State Webinar 3, taking place Sep 14, 2022, 3:00-4:30 p.m. ET. This third webinar features resources to advance driver education for Slow Down Move Over Law adherence as well as to mitigate distracted driving during CRSW and beyond. Presenters from our TIM community include:

  • Dawn Miller, Incident Operations Engineer, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). MDOT is pursuing continuing education credits for driver education instructors that take the TIM Responder Training course and has implemented collaborations that keep current TIM practices within the Department of Motor Vehicle licensing booklet.
  • Joel Feldman, President of the Casey Feldman Foundation / End Distracted Driving (EndDD.org), highlights free, easy-to-use, and proven resources that help response organizations educate students (grades K-12) in their communities about the Move Over laws and broader strategies to end distracted driving.

During this webinar, the FHWA TIM team will also share newly developed resources such as the 2022 CRSW flyer. Jim Austrich, FHWA TIM Program Manager, will conduct an abbreviated all-state roll call, requesting responder communities in each State to provide updates on their plans to commemorate the week. We kindly request highlights be limited to 1-2 minutes.

Be sure to also register for the National Kickoff webinar for CRSW scheduled for November 14, 2022, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET. Also, visit the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) CRSW webpage for CRSW resources, such as the Governor’s Proclamation request process for your State.

Be safe,

Paul Jodoin, Jim Austrich, and Joe Tebo FHWA TIM Program Managers
