Ohio DOT Shares Experience with Cone Penetration Testing (CPT)
One of the presentations during webinar #6 of the A-GaME winter webinar series — CPT: More Holes is More Better! — focuses on Ohio DOT’s (ODT’s) experiences implementing CPT. Andrew Jalbrzikowski, field exploration manager with ODOT and a self-proclaimed “conehead,” walks through an overview of their CPT rig equipped with a seismic pusher and how it’s being used in direct design. He also discusses specific project applications and the lessons learned. While it has its limitations, Jalbrzikowski says that CPT is so quick, fast and efficient, he is always looking to see if it is usable for geotechnical exploration. “Every time we get a project in,” he adds, “we ask ‘can we push it?’”

Geo-Industry CPT Users Group
The joint industry CPT Users Group was created in cooperation with FHWA, Geo-Institute, DOTs, DFI and TRB Committee AKG20 to address CPT users’ needs. If you are interested in cone penetration testing and want to learn more about CPT applications or share your own knowledge, join the monthly virtual meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. (ET). The meetings are held via Microsoft Teams, which will also be used to house information generated by the group. For more information visit the CPT Users Group Committee web page or contact Derrick Dasenbrock, FHWA Resource Center, at derrick.dasenbrock@dot.gov.
