EXTENSION NOTICE: NOMINATION OF ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS
Member Nominations now due May 21, 2022: the Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health
The Secretary of Labor (Secretary) invites interested parties to submit nominations for individuals to serve on the Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health for Part E of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). The Advisory Board advises the Secretary of Labor on technical aspects of the EEOICPA program, with respect to:
- DOL's Site Exposure Matrices (SEM) database, which is used in establishing causal links between a vast array of toxic substances, diseases that could be related to the substances, and location and job categories of covered workers;
- Medical guidance for claims examiners under the Energy program, with respect to the weighing of the medical evidence of claimants;
- Evidentiary requirements for claims related to lung disease;
- The work of industrial hygienists, staff physicians, and consulting physicians, and their reports, to ensure quality, objectivity, and consistency;
- The claims adjudication process generally, including review of procedure manual changes prior to incorporation into the manual and claims for medical benefits; and
- Such other matters as the Secretary considers appropriate.
The terms of the 12 sitting Board members expire in July 2022. Current members may be re-nominated and reappointed.
The Advisory Board is mandated by Section 3687 of EEOICPA and consists of 12-15 members to be appointed by the Secretary. Membership is balanced between the scientific, medical, and claimant communities.
