Job Summary:
This position is located in the Chicago Regional Office of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) under the direction of the Regional Administrator (RA) or Deputy Regional Administrator (DBA). The incumbent serves as the principal Wage and Hour Specialist and advisor to the Wage and Hour Regional Administrator regarding U-Visa certification requests under the provisions of Section 1513(b) of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000, as amended, 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(15)(U) and related Department of Homeland Security regulations, 8 C.F.R. § 214.14. The incumbent provides technical assistance and guidance to District Offices undertaking WHD investigations, and coordinates efforts with appropriate government agencies and non-governmental organizations. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has sole jurisdiction over all petitions for U non-immigrant status and associated visas; however, each petition must include a certification by a designated agency that the petitioner is a victim of certain qualifying criminal activity and is, has been, or is likely to be helpful in the investigation or prosecution of that activity.
