The Pathways to Apprenticeship (PTA) Training Program is designed to introduce the participant to performing a variety of analytical, writing and monitoring functions related to workforce development issues, programs, and projects. This is a one (1) year apprenticeship with progressive training and skill requirement. Training is provided at the Department's expense. (Apprentices may be required to attend formal classroom instruction which must be completed during the apprentice program, including attendance of classes on own time, if required, i.e. evening or Saturday classes). Successful completion of the apprenticeship program is contingent upon evaluation/review by the Apprentice committee/board. If all components of the apprenticeship program are not completed successfully, the participant will be removed from the Apprenticeship program. In addition to the Pathways to Apprenticeship requirements, students must complete the DOL Internship Program Requirements. As a part of the Apprenticeship Program, participants may be converted, without a break in service to permanent appointment upon graduation, completion of 640 hours work experience and completion of departmental and program's training requirements. To a position that has a career ladder up to the GS-11. The grade level upon conversion will be determined by management, provided the participant is a US citizen who receives a favorable recommendation from the supervisor for retention. There is no guarantee of conversion following this internship.
