OJJDP RELEASES AMBER ALERT GUIDE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

WASHINGTON – When a child goes missing, an immediate, full-scale response is critically important. America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response Alert Program, or AMBER Alert, was founded in 1996 to expedite the recovery of abducted children. AMBER Alert is a partnership between law enforcement and transportation agencies, broadcasters and businesses that has helped recover 957 abducted children to date.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention today released the AMBER Alert Field Guide for Law Enforcement Officers, which provides best practices from subject matter experts in AMBER Alert programs across the country. Topics include establishing leads and leads management, search and recovery operations, screening and training volunteers, interacting with abduction victims’ families, managing media, and more.
