We’re resending this email because the preview link in our earlier message wasn’t the right one. You’ll find the correct link included below. Thank you for your continued interest in the Flow Photo Explorer.
The USGS Flow Photo Explorer (FPE) platform continues to support a wide range of users and needs for environmental modeling, and we appreciate our engaged users for the feedback and contributions!
We are pleased to announce that the model results shown on the Flow Photo Explorer will soon be citable data products! All model results at image stations not marked ‘private’ in our system will be automatically released publicly on the USGS ScienceBase digital repository. A preview of the unpublished data is visible at this preview link, which will be active until August 14, 2026.
Each location has a folder for each model containing:
- The model prediction timeseries.
- The annotations used to train the model.
-
The model object that can be used to make predictions on new images using our software release.
- Metadata and data summaries. The metadata includes the user-provided location.
If you do not want your station’s model published, mark the station “private” in the station manager page and reach out to us. Similarly, reach out to us if you do not see results for sites that you are expecting! Please mark your sites private and/or reach out to us by August 14, 2026.
The dataset will be published on August 28, 2026 and after that date can be accessed and cited using this information:
Goodling, P., Walker, J. D., Fair, J. H., and Gupta, A., 2026, Outputs for Image-based Estimation Models: US Geological Survey data release, doi.org/10.5066/P1DYVVFC.
We plan to publish all stations not marked “private” to the same location on an ongoing basis moving forward, likely a semi-annual or annual basis.
Other planned updates to look forward to this year:
- Automated image quality screening – filtering out photos with glare, haze, and obstructions!
- Steps to integrate with the USGS-internal camera network called the National Information Management System.
- Publication of a Terms and Conditions document that will describe expected uses of the system in greater detail.
- Upgrade the account management system to use Login.gov – detailed notification will be sent in advance of this transition.
