It is my pleasure to share updates on the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) small business activities and achievements. The Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) was recently renamed to the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP). Part of the DOE Small Business Strategic Plan, this renaming captures the office’s evolving role in Secretary Wright’s Directive “Unleashing the Golden Era of American Energy Dominance” and is the name used for the Small Business Offices at the Department of War (DoW) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The term “programs” reinforces the integral role DOE plays in designing, managing, and executing initiatives that expand small business participation in federal contracting. Going beyond “utilization,” it signals a forward-leaning commitment to better integrating small businesses into mission delivery, expanding the American energy small business industrial base, and leveraging data and emerging technologies to modernize acquisition practices.
We continue to make great strides in implementing the DOE Small Business Strategic Plan. The working groups comprised of DOE small business program subject matter experts and large prime contractors have set milestones and are working diligently towards advancing strategic priorities. This roadmap will build on historical agency small business achievements to expand access, innovation, and alignment with Secretarial Directives. Stay tuned for more developments!
The Newsletter also covers legislative updates, small business contracting achievements, and a summary of DOE small business events. We hope you enjoy learning more about the exciting small business developments across the DOE enterprise.
As a special note, OSBP gives thanks and a big shout out to Gary Lyttek, Senior Business Source Manager at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), who has retired. Congratulations, Gary, on your outstanding accomplishments during your extensive Federal career, including 25 years supporting NNSA. Your partnership with OSBP over the many years has been instrumental in DOE’s small business accomplishments and we wish you all the best in the future!
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting DOE’s missions through small business excellence.
Warm regards,
