OCED announced up to $450 million in funding to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of deploying clean energy projects on current (operating) and former (abandoned or inactive) mine land. The Clean Energy Demonstration Program on Current and Former Mine Land will provide financial investment, technical assistance, and other resources to advance the widespread deployment of clean energy projects on current and former mine land.
During a keynote address at CERAWeek, Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm announced $6 billion in funding to accelerate decarbonization projects in energy-intensive industries and provide American manufacturers a competitive advantage in the emerging global clean energy economy. OCED’s Industrial Demonstrations Program will focus on the highest emitting industries where decarbonization technologies will have the greatest impact, such as iron and steel, aluminum, cement and concrete, and other energy-intensive industrial processes.
OCED announced $300 million in funding for projects that increase energy affordability and promote climate resilience and $15 million for a prize competition to help rural communities build the capacity needed for clean energy development and deployment. The Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas program aims to improve the resilience, reliability, and affordability of energy systems in communities across the country with 10,000 or fewer people.
OCED is partnering with the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) on a $15 million Lab Call to establish two industry working groups to convene clean hydrogen and long-duration energy storage (LDES) stakeholders for collaboration to develop actionable recommendations, strategies, and best practices to facilitate scale-up and replication.
