BAND OF THE WEST VOCALISTS PERFORM AT WNBA ALL-STAR GAME: Three vocalists from the Air Force Band of the West will take part in the WNBA All Star Game July 23 by performing the national anthem. The event will be televised nationally. Positive civic outreach.

JBSA MEMBERS SUPPORT WNBA ALL-STAR GAME: Fifty-five military students from the 882nd Training Group, Medical Education and Training Center (METC) at Fort Sam Houston, TX will participate in opening ceremonies at the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game July 23 in San Antonio. The students will hold a giant American flag during the singing of the national anthem. The anthem will be performed by three female vocalists from the Air Force Band of the West. The game will be nationally televised. Positive civic outreach.

PETA COMPLAINS LACKLAND USING FERRETS FOR MEDICAL TRAINING: Reporter Melissa Garcia from WOAI-4 TV (NBC San Antonio) called Wednesday (July 20) asking if she could interview someone from the 59th Medical Wing on camera about the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals complaint regarding Lackland using ferrets for medical training. She also requested permission to film ferrets at the 59th MDW Clinical Research Division. Public Affairs explained the Air Force Surgeon General's response to PETA serves as Lackland's official statement and declined the requests. A negative news segment aired July 20.
