Medics led by Marine Corps Cpl. Eric Smith negotiate a wire obstacle while transporting a mock casualty to a waiting helicopter during the annual competition for best medic on Fort Drum, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2012. During the event, candidates try to earn a chance to participate in a national competition on Fort Sam Houston. Smith is assigned to the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment.
