HSIN Helps Law Enforcement Information Sharing Event Reach More Participants

More than 200 Federal, State, Tribal, Local and International law enforcement officials joined DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano as she gave the keynote address for the fifth annual Law Enforcement Information Sharing (LEIS) Roundtable, held Aug 20-21 in Arlington, VA. “Knowing we had the flexibility to involve more people through HSIN Connect than we could house in the physical room was a huge value to us,” explained LEIS Initiative (LEISI) Program Manager Claudette Fogg-Castillo. “Using HSIN Connect, we were able to hold a secure event that included a large number of participants in the DC area and across the nation. Most of the people who were on HSIN Connect for LEIS had not yet used HSIN. They were able to log on, after we validated them, and immediately join into the conversation with real-time comments and questions. I will definitely use HSIN Connect again for a big event.” The theme for this year’s LEIS Roundtable was, “Law Enforcement in the Digital Data Age: How Innovative Technologies are Shaping the Evolution of Information Sharing.”

California Users Now Able to Use HSIN for Statewide Info Sharing

HSIN users in California now have the ability to tag documents in HSIN with regional data. This new ability allows users to share information statewide and eventually will support wider information sharing for California HSIN users. In addition, sites in The Golden State are now easier to find in the HSIN directory. If you would like more information about the recent improvements to California sites in HSIN, please contact HSIN.Outreach@hq.dhs.gov.

HSIN Help Desk Has Improved and Will Keep Improving

Help Desk graphic

HSIN's expanding capabilities have prompted the HSIN Program to adopt new customer-centric Help Desk approaches. A ticketing system geared towards IT Help Desk best practices has allowed HSIN’s technical staff to address problems before they impact the larger HSIN community. This new system has already decreased the number of open issues, a number that will continue to drop as the dust settles from the R3 migration. Additionally, the Help Desk will actively attempt to resolve known issues during the initial phone call or email response.
