Remind OPT Participants of Reporting Requirements

As a reminder, volunteer positions not directly related to a student’s course of study do not qualify as optional practical training (OPT). International students should not list volunteer positions under OPT employment. Reporting volunteer opportunities as OPT is a violation of reporting requirements and subjects students to removal from the United States.

For more information, share the Broadcast Message: Reporting Volunteer Positions During OPT Employment with your students participating in OPT.

Prepare for Hurricane Season

It is important that F and M students maintain their student status, even during emergency events. As hurricane season begins, SEVP will share emergency preparedness tips and resources through LinkedIn, as well as on the Study in the States blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

Visit the Maintain F and M Status in Emergency Events page on Study in the States for emergency preparedness checklists for international students.
