FEMA Response Exercise Focuses on Use of Advanced Technology

Drone

After a large-scale incident, many different Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) teams from across the country are often deployed to assist. Numerous teams can ensure all impacted areas are searched in as short amount of time as possible, which is critical for this life-saving mission.

Large deployments, however, do require close coordination and trained people, standard and practiced processes, and technology that provides a common operating platform, so all teams have the same situational awareness. Together, these key elements can help ensure that once deployed, teams from disparate locations are able to work as one.

United States-New Zealand Emergency Management Partnership Strengthened

On Aug. 9, FEMA and New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency renewed their Memorandum of Cooperation. The renewed agreement deepens bilateral emergency preparedness and response through data sharing, joint hazard research and joint crisis management exercises.

New Disaster Survivor Reasonable Accommodation Resources

The Office of Equal Rights recently published a fact sheet with information on reasonable accommodations for disaster survivors. Additionally, this one-page document summarizes what reasonable accommodations are, how disaster survivors can access them and file complaints.
