Mitigation Minute for October 9, 2019

FEMA. Mitigation Minute. New HMGP Post Fire Program. Earlier this year, FEMA announced the availability of funds to support wildfire recovery using the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) for Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declarations. This new post fire program is part of FEMA’s implementation of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act (DRRA) of 2018. Program highlights. It is now a permanent program that makes post fire grants available for all areas that received a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration on or after Oct. 5, 2018. It is non-competitive, allowing all communities with an FMAG declaration to be eligible. (Subject to standard HMGP requirements). Funding is disbursed more quickly than traditional HMGP grants. Because a major disaster declaration is not required to access the grants, funding is more frequent, more easily accessed, and mitigation activities can be done earlier in the disaster cycle! HMGP Post Fire provided the following grant amounts in FY19. New Mexico $454,432. Texas $454,432. Montana $454,432. Utah $454,432. Arizona $454,432. Oregon $605,909. California $1,363,296. Alaska $1,363,296. Nevada $1,817,727.
