1. This ALCOAST solicits mentor applications for the FY27 Senior
Enlisted Leadership Course (SELC) Class Mentor Program
(E-9 applicants). This program is a vital component in the
development of our service's senior enlisted leaders.
    a. The program seeks great candidates who represent the best of
the Senior Enlisted workforce and from/including the "Badge"
network; the aim is to inspire SELC students and to increase
visibility for potential career positions that students could aspire
to for future assignments.
    b. The program's objective is to connect the SELC to relatable,
experienced Senior Enlisted mentors from the Coast Guard who can
answer questions and guide the students through the challenges and
opportunities that they will face to remain agile as Senior Enlisted
Leaders while they navigate the Service's responsibilities.
2. Mentors are expected to participate with their assigned SELC in
a variety of ways throughout the students' 8-week course.
For example:
    a. Mentors should attend each of 5-weekly online course content
discussions held virtually on Thursdays at 1200 EST the first
5-weeks of the course.
    b. Mentors should schedule time to virtually meet with each of 5
color teams to provide guidance and feedback on the students'
MCPOCG assigned change management projects.
    c. Mentors will travel to New London, CT and be panelists on
the Command Senior Enlisted Leadership Panel; participate in the
Mentoring the Chiefs Mess instructional block; and, engage in
general with the class during the final 8th-week of the course.
3. Mentor Application and Commitment Requirements:
    a. Mentors must be a SELC graduate.
    b. Mentors must currently be serving as a Gold, Silver (or
screened for Silver), Rating Force Master Chief (Blue badge); or
in an E-9 position with fleet wide exposure.
    c. Mentor's should be inspiring and able to engage, relate to,
and communicate effectively with students.
    d. Mentors must commit to being available for the 5 online
synchronous meetings, 5 online team project consultations, and one-
day in person participation during the residential training held on
the Coast Guard Academy Campus in New London, CT.
4. During the selection process, priority will be given to members
with diverse job assignment backgrounds. Typically, no more than
two mentors will be assigned per class and pairs will be matched
to enable maximum job diversification exposure within the team.
    a. Applicants may request a mentoring partner; assignments
cannot be guaranteed.
5. The SELC Class Mentor Program is considered mission essential
travel in accordance with REF (B). In-person attendance for all
mentoring sessions is required, as permitted by operations and
budget appropriations. Funding for mentor travel is at the mentor
unit's expense. Travel authorization and funding must be approved
in accordance with current travel requirements; acceptance as a
mentor alone does not constitute permission to travel.
6. Given the high level of interest in this opportunity and the
limited number of available classes, not all applicants will be
selected. Members not selected in previous years are encouraged
to re-apply. Prior to applying, members must obtain approval from
their Command and unit funds approver to confirm their ability to
participate fully in the program and that unit funds are available
for travel expenses.

    a. All qualified applicants will be considered by a selection
board held at the LDC and approved by the FORCECOM Gold Badge.
All applicants will be notified of their selection status, including
mentor pairing and class pairing if applicable, via email NLT
20 SEP 26.
