SUBJ: NATIONAL RECREATIONAL BOATING SAFETY SURVEY (NRBSS)
ENGAGEMENT - THROUGH FEBRUARY 2027
1. PURPOSE. This ALCOAST highlights and supports the ongoing rollout
of the Coast Guard's National Recreational Boating Safety Survey
(NRBSS), which serves as the premier source of boating data across
all 50 U.S. States and the District of Columbia. The U.S. Coast
Guard administers the National Recreational Boating Safety Program.
Questions about the survey may arise from the boating public.
This ALCOAST provides guidance on providing awareness to the public
about potential voluntary survey participation.
2. BACKGROUND. Randomly selected United States households
with registered boat owners will receive invitations by mail
to participate in the NRBSS. This survey now includes online
participation options (see para 3 below).
3. ENGAGEMENT. Coast Guard personnel are encouraged to
promote potential survey participation with the boating public by
providing an information flyer with QR code to boaters during
boardings, at marinas, during community engagement events,
and at maritime industry meetings.
