SUBJ: 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN AT THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY
1. This ALCOAST commemorates a defining moment in Coast Guard
history: the 50th anniversary of the integration of women into
the United States Coast Guard Academy.
2. On June 28, 1976, thirty-eight pioneers reported to New London,
Connecticut, taking the oath of office to join the Class of 1980.
Fourteen graduated, forging a legacy of distinction. Through proven
leadership, these officers commanded cutters, led aviation units,
and managed complex operations globally. Their competence and grit
set a standard of excellence that remains a cornerstone of our
operational success.
3. These trailblazers navigated uncharted waters. Their legacy
underpins our modern readiness as we renew the Service and become
a more agile, capable, and responsive force ready to meet the
Nation's call.
4. ADM Kevin E. Lunday, Commandant (CCG), sends.
5. Internet release is authorized.
