SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR (DoW) UNIT AWARD
IN SUICIDE PREVENTION
1. On behalf of the Department of War (DoW), the Defense Suicide
Prevention Office (DSPO) hosts the annual Suicide Prevention
Recognition Ceremony to honor exceptional suicide prevention
programming from across the Military, including the Coast Guard.
DSPO will recognize honorees from commands/units and distinguished
guests at a ceremony in Washington, DC tentatively scheduled for
September 2026.
2. The event honors commands/units for their innovative programs to
promote suicide prevention tools and resources across the military
community. These efforts improve and enhance personnel readiness
and promote activities supporting the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) theme:
Joining Your Fight: Connect to Protect. These efforts can include
advocating for suicide prevention as a core tenet of military
service readiness, encouraging Service members to seek help,
reinforcing the unity of our military through the theme of
Connection and the Connect to Protect slogan, raising awareness of
suicide prevention Service member and Veteran programs and services,
and supporting those affected by suicide.
3. To support the Coast Guard's emphasis on suicide prevention
throughout the year, commands/units will be recognized for their
FY25 efforts that fully capture the dedication of those championing
suicide prevention education and awareness.
4. To be considered for recognition, commands/units must complete
the nomination form and submit it through the appropriate chain of
command to the Headquarters Suicide Prevention Program Manager
(SPPM). Nomination packages must include documented participation in
suicide prevention events and/or activities that occurred between
