1. This ALCOAST solicits Enlisted applicants interested in being
considered for selection to attend the Uniformed Services University
of the Health Sciences (USUHS) Enlisted to Medical Degree
Preparatory Program (EMDP2), IAW REF (A). The candidates selected
at this panel should anticipate starting the program in the summer
of 2027.
2. Background. EMDP2 is a competitive program through USUHS for
enlisted personnel who desire to attend medical school and become
military physicians. It consists of a two-year pre-medical school
program in-residence at George Mason University; completing the
Medical College Admission Test (MCAT); and applying to the USUHS
School of Medicine (SOM) for entry into the four-year medical
student program. During the EMDP2 program, students remain in
their enlisted grade. Members who complete EMDP2 and are accepted
into the USUHS SOM program will be commissioned as an Ensign prior
to matriculation. Members shall apply to USUHS SOM through the
Early Decision application process.
3. Expectations and requirements. All applicants for EMDP2 must meet
USUHS admissions requirements, which may be periodically updated.
Applicants are encouraged to review admissions requirements on the
program website for the most up-to-date information (see paragraph

following requirements:

     b. One year (six semester hours) of college-level English or
Writing-intensive Humanities, Languages, Social Sciences, or

Test (ACT) within five years of application to USUHS.

the EMDP2 Program (The Coast Guard will consider waivers for this
requirement).
     e. Have more than 3 but less than 10 years of service on 1 July
in the year of matriculation to the EMDP2 Program. The 3-year
minimum is not waivable, but the 10-year maximum can be considered
for waiver. Applicants are reminded
that there is a 120-month ADSO following completion of both EMDP2
and the 4-year USUHS SOM medical student program.
