SUBJ:  MAY 2026 - MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
1. May is Mental Health Awareness Month—an opportunity to reinforce
the importance of readiness, resilience, and overall well-being
across our Coast Guard workforce. Operating in dynamic and
demanding environments requires mental strength, and acknowledging
challenges is a sign of professionalism—not weakness.
2. As mission demands evolve, so do the stressors faced by
Coast Guard personnel. Whether responding to crises, supporting
a high operational tempo, or managing workplace pressures, members
may feel stressed or even overwhelmed. Further, the lapses in
appropriations during FY26 have added to the strain across the
workplace. While people want information, support and resources,
concerns about judgment or career impact can prevent them from
seeking support.
3. Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a reminder that
sustaining mission readiness includes taking care of ourselves
and each other. Your well-being and stability remain the highest
priorities of the Coast Guard. Seeking support enhances your
ability to perform, lead, and stay resilient. You are not alone—
resources are available.
