EMPLOYEES - UPDATE TO HEPATITIS B VACCINATION GUIDELINES
A. Coast Guard Occupational Medicine Manual, COMDTINST 6260.32
B. Child Development Services Manual, COMDTINST 1754.15
1. This ALCOAST updates REF (A) and REF (B) establishing a
Hepatitis B vaccination requirement and implementation guidelines
for Coast Guard Child Development Center (CDC) employees,
Family Child Care (FCC) providers, and medical staff providing
these services during pre-employment and periodic exams.
2. The Hepatitis B vaccination or positive serologic testing
(showing immunity through lab testing) is now mandatory during
pre-employment medical exams for new CDC employees and FCC
providers, or during periodic exams for current CDC employees and
FCC providers. Once the employee or provider has been shown to be
immune or fully vaccinated and appropriately documented, medical
providers are not required to re-check this requirement.
3. Other vaccine requirements from REF (A), Enclosure (19)
"Checklist for Childcare Worker Examination" remain unchanged.
4. There is no requirement for current CDC employees or FCC
providers who were already seen for their period exam to return
early for Hepatitis B vaccination and/or serological testing
(lab testing). For those CDC employees and FCC providers already
seen, compliance with the Hepatitis B requirements will begin with
the next cycle of periodic exams.
