1. Force Readiness Command Leadership Development Branch (FC-LDR)
is accepting nominations for the Coast Guard Inspirational
Leadership Awards and Navy League Leadership Awards. Commands and
staff directorates are invited and encouraged to submit nominations
for each of these prestigious awards. These awards recognize
personnel who demonstrated outstanding leadership, maintained
mission excellence, mentored personnel, and led and motivated by
example, while exemplifying the Coast Guard's Core Values of Honor,
Respect, and Devotion to Duty during calendar year 2025.
2. Inspirational leaders are vital to operational excellence,
fulfilling the Coast Guard's mission to ensure our Nation's maritime
safety, security and stewardship. Selecting and recognizing high
performing leaders is a service imperative which supports individual
and unit development and recruitment of the most talented personnel.
3. Being nominated for and or winning these awards should positively
impact future personnel reviews, assignments, promotions and
advancements. Previous winners have gone on to serve in significant
leadership roles across the organization. Commands are encouraged to
document nominations and selections using all appropriate methods
such as a positive CG-3307, personal awards, OERs, EERs, and end of
year performance evaluations.
4. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, 06 MAR 2026.
Nominations are being accepted for the following awards:
     a. CAPT John G. Witherspoon (Officers, Active Duty and Reserve)
     b. MCPO Angela M. McShan (E-7 Active Duty and Reserve)
     c. Mr. George R. Putnam (Civilian Appropriated or
Non-Appropriated)
     d. COMO Charles S. Greanoff (Auxiliary Flotilla Commander)
5. In addition, nominations are being accepted for the following
Navy League awards for Inspirational Leadership:
     a. CAPT David H. Jarvis (Officers, Active Duty), and
     b. SM1 Douglas A. Munro (Enlisted, Active Duty)
6. Winners will receive the following:
     a. SM1 Douglas A. Munro Navy League Leadership Award Winner: E-6
and below will receive a merit advancement. If the winner is
advanced to E-7, they will be required to remain on active duty for
two years from the effective date of their advancement per 3.A.21.c
of REF (A). Members must be marked ready and eligible for
advancement to be nominated.
     b. All winners will receive a congratulatory call from either the
Commandant, Vice Commandant or Master Chief Petty Officer of the
Coast Guard.
     c. All winners will receive an engraved trophy.
     d. Navy League Leadership Award Winners: Both winners are invited
to attend the annual Navy League convention, where they will receive
their award certificate signed by the Commandant and Master Chief
Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, and an award code will be placed
into their Direct Access record. The Navy League Annual Convention
will be held in Norfolk, VA, 3-6 June 2026.
7. The policy for these awards is outlined in REF (B); however,
detailed eligibility requirements, specific nomination guidelines
and submission procedures are outlined on the FC-LDR website:

     a. New for 2026, all award nominations will be submitted via MS
Forms. This will make it easier for commands to submit their
nominations and allows FC-LDR to gather additional information that
is needed once the panel concludes. Submission instructions can be
found via the link above.
     b. Nominations must clearly outline examples and challenges,
specific actions and accomplishments, and the impact that speaks to
the award's criteria.
     c. Commands should include specific examples of exceptional
leadership that includes mission excellence, coaching, mentoring,
and service outside of the nominee's routine duties.
     d. Nominations must clearly indicate whether candidates are in
the Active Duty or Reserve component.
     e. Strict adherence to the eligibility requirements and
guidelines is required; incomplete nomination packages will not be
considered.
8. FC-LDR will convene a panel in March 2026 to review nominations
and recommend awardees. If you are interested in serving as a panel
member, please apply using the link below. We highly encourage
members that have previously been identified as Inspirational
Leadership Award winners and runners up, who wish to be considered
for membership on the selection panel to apply! Applications are due
30 January 2026.
