1. This ALCOAST extends REF (A), which announced an update to the
Coast Guard's Primary and Secondary Caregiver Leave Policy.
Changes continue to be in effect for Chapter 6 of REF (B) that
discuss primary and secondary caregiver leave.
2. Previous policy establishing the replacement of primary/secondary
caregiver leave with parental leave, and an increase of up to 12
weeks for parental leave, remains in effect. These changes ensure
parity with the Department of Defense (DoD). Please review REF (C)
located at:

3. The Coast Guard will use the standards specified in REF (C) when
processing parental leave requests and questions.
4. These changes will be incorporated into the next revision of
REF (B). All other policies outlined in REF (B) not addressed
remain unchanged.
