Safety Advisory: Port Allen Lock Closures at MM 64 Morgan City-Port Allen Alternate Route
- The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Morgan City – Port Allen Alternate Route at Mile Marker 64. This advisory is necessary to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with construction operations on the approach and chamber guide walls and mooring bits. The Port Allen Lock will be closed to navigation during intermittent closures up to 5 hours from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., each day, beginning on September 15, 2025, until construction operations are complete. Construction is expected to be completed on September 22, 2025, and work times are subject to change.
- The lock will remain open to navigation at all other times. The queue at Port Allen Lock will be actively managed to assure that no single vessel or tow will experience a delay exceeding 24 hours.
- Mariners are advised to transit at the slowest safe speed to minimize wake while transiting in the vicinity of the approach and chamber guide walls.
