SUBJ: ENLISTED LEADERSHIP TRAINING ADVANCEMENT CALENDAR YEAR 2025
REQUIREMENTS UPDATE
A. Enlistments, Evaluations, and Advancements, COMDTINST 1000.2C
1. This ALCOAST updates the service on the current state of
leadership training quotas and requirements for advancement in
accordance with REF (A).
2. Apprentice Leader Program (ALP) is attached to "A" School. This
course is a requirement for advancement to E-4.
a. For Public Affairs "A" School students, an annual "C" school
will be held at the Leadership Development Center in New London, CT.
b. For Cyber Mission Specialist "A" School students, the ALP
staff is coordinating with the school to provide ALP as a part
of training.
3. Leadership and Management School (LAMS) is a 5 day exportable
course held throughout the service and a resident course held at
New London, CT, Petaluma, CA, and Yorktown, VA.
a. LAMS is an E-6 Service Wide Exam (SWE) eligibility requirement
and a requirement for advancement to E-6.
b. Substitute courses that meet the requirement are:
(1) Airman Leader School (502104)
(2) Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy (501358)
(3) Army Basic Leader Course (600652)
(4) Marine Corps Sgt's Course
c. Submit Pay and Personnel Center (PPC) trouble tickets
requesting a waiver if member graduates from LAMS prior to the
end of the SWE correction period or has completed an
equivalent Department of Defense course.
d. If member cannot graduate by the SWE correction deadline
and could not attend LAMS for the entire year prior to, submit
memo waiver requests to PPC through the Leadership Development
Branch of FORCECOM (FC-LDR) for endorsement.
4. Chief Petty Officer Academy (CPOACAD) is a 4 week resident course
held in Petaluma, CA.
a. CPOACAD is an advancement requirement for E-7 and E-8. Members
must graduate from CPOACAD prior to advancing to E-7 and E-8 off of
an Enlisted Personnel Advancement Announcement (EPAA). E-7 and E-8
advancements will be withheld until the 1st or 15th of the month
after the member graduates CPOACAD.
b. This requirement is waived for those advancing to E-7 off of
the 2024 SWE due to the change in timing following the SWE.
c. Substitute courses that meet the requirement are:
(1) Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy (400301)
(2) United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (400302)
d. Submit advancement requirement waiver requests to FC-LDR
through the members first flag and gold badge.
e. Members above the cut from the SWE or Advance to Position
(A2P) to E-7/8 will be direct slated without an Electronic
training request (ETR). A2P members should reach out to the program
Point of Contact (POC) directly.
(1) For the 2025 SWE, the slate will be compiled shortly after
the cuts are released in August. Members will be assigned a
convening based on how high they are on the list. If a member is
number one on the list they should expect to attend the October 2025
convening.
(2) All other chiefs not above the cut who wish to attend
CPOACAD should put in ETR with open availability and consider a
substitute course.
5. Senior Enlisted Leader Course (SELC) is 6 weeks of online
asynchronous training followed by 2 weeks resident training at
New London, CT.
a. SELC is an advancement requirement for E-9 off the 2025
Master Chief Advancement Panel (MCAP). This requirement was removed
in error from the last version of REF (A). This error is planned for
correction in the next revision. Members advancing from the 2025
MCAP should expect to need SELC to advance in 2026.
b. Paragraph 5.K, will be updated as follows:
"Senior Service Training. Have successfully completed the Senior
Enlisted Leader Course (SELC) or one of the equivalent Department of
Defense (DoD) Senior Service Academies prior to advancement."
c. Substitute courses are:
(1) Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted
Academy (JSOFSEA)
(2) Sergeant's Major Academy (SGM-A)
d. ETR's are accepted for E-8 and E-9. Preference will be given
to E-8 above the cut for E-9.
