SUBJ: COAST GUARD'S 2025 SPIRIT OF HOPE AWARD RECIPIENT
1. We are pleased to announce the Coast Guard's 2025 Spirit of Hope
Award recipient, Dr. Suzanne Sheaffer. The Spirit of Hope Award is
presented for outstanding service to the United States of America.
It recognizes men and women of the United States Armed Forces,
entertainers, and other distinguished Americans and organizations
whose patriotism and service epitomize the values of Bob Hope:
courage, honor, duty, commitment, integrity, and selfless dedication
to others. These individuals significantly enhance the quality of
life of service members and their families serving around the world
and selflessly contribute extraordinary time, talent, or resources
to benefit members of the United States Armed Forces.
2. Dr. Sheaffer is recognized for outstanding meritorious service
while serving as the Coast Guard's Gold Star Volunteer Coordinator
since January 2014. Utilizing her own personal experience through
the loss of a loved one, she has worked tirelessly to create a Gold
Star Program that ensures families receive immediate and long term
support following the loss of an active-duty service member.
Dr. Sheaffer's distinct accomplishments are keeping with the finest
traditions of the Long Blue Line and the United States Coast Guard.
3. Dr. Sheaffer is invited to the Pentagon to accept the 2025 Spirit
of Hope Award at a ceremony honoring awardees from every branch at
10:30 a.m. on September 17, 2025.
4. We offer our appreciation to CDR Samuel Danus for nominating Dr.
Sheaffer.
