SUBJ: COAST GUARD JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS (CGJROTC)
SOLICITATION FOR MARITIME SCIENCE INSTRUCTORS
A. Body Composition Standards Program, COMDTINST 1020.8I
1. The CGJROTC program announces openings for full-time Senior
Maritime Science Instructors (SMSI) and Maritime Science
Instructors (MSI) for the following school locations:
    a. SMSI - Kodiak High School, Kodiak, AK
    b. SMSI - Marshfield High School, Coos Bay, OR
    c. SMSI - Kalani High School, Honolulu, HI
    d. SMSI – Topsail High School, Hampstead, NC
    e. MSI – Topsail High School, Hampstead, NC
    f. MSI - Barnstable High School, Hyannis, MA
2. To be eligible to apply for certification, an applicant must
meet the following requirements:
    a. Have active duty and/or reserve service in the Coast Guard
as a commissioned officer in grades W-2 through O-6, or as a
non-commissioned officer in grades E-7 through E-9; and fall into
one of the following categories:
        (1) Retirees of the Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve within
the past five (5) years; or
        (2) Coast Guard Retirement eligible within next six months and
eligible to utilize SkillBridge for up to 180 days; or
        (3) Active members of the Coast Guard Selected Reserve
(SELRES) component at the time of application, with at least eight
(8) years of credible Coast Guard service; or
        (4) Veterans with at least eight (8) years of credible
Coast Guard service and who have separated honorably from the
Coast Guard within the past five (5) years.
    b. SMSI Candidates must have at least a bachelor's degree in any
discipline.
    c. MSI candidates must have an associate's degree or will obtain
one within five years of employment.
    d. All instructors must be in compliance with REF (A).
3. Duties include but are not limited to managing the CGJROTC unit
at the respective school, teaching CGJROTC curriculum to cadets in
grades 8-12, managing inventory, ensuring safety and well-being of
cadets, planning extracurricular activities for the unit, military
drill instruction, managing budget and reimbursement requests, and
representing the Coast Guard and the CGJROTC program positively to
all stakeholders.
4. The Coast Guard is the certifying authority; the respective
school district for each position is the hiring authority; these
positions are neither ADOS nor GS positions.
5. Salary is dependent upon position, education, and location and
does not affect retirement pay or veterans benefits. Other military
benefits are not applicable. School districts determine additional
employment benefits.
6. Candidates who receive an offer of employment from the school
must consent to a Tier 1 background check with childcare inquiries.
7. CGJROTC is an official SkillBridge partner.
8. Assistance relocation expenses may be authorized.
