SUBJ: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 2025 ARMED SERVICES YMCA ANGELS OF THE
BATTLEFIELD AWARD RECIPIENT
1. I am pleased to announce Maritime Enforcement Specialist First
Class (ME1) Hunter Ince, assigned to Maritime Security Response
Team (MSRT) West, has been selected as the Coast Guard recipient
for the 19th Annual Armed Services YMCA Angels of the Battlefield
(AOTB) Award. AOTB is an annual award that recognizes one enlisted
medical professional from each branch of the Armed Forces.
2. This year's AOTB Award is recognizing ME1 Ince's courageous
actions, superior leadership and heroic life-saving medical
interventions while assigned to a high-threat area known for
terrorist activity, kidnapping, and violent conflict as well as
third-world conditions that are lacking any medical infrastructure
or emergency medical services. ME1 Ince and his team were completing
a routine key leadership engagement with local partner forces when
they received a distress call that a Philippine National Police
element was engaged in a firefight with foreign terrorist
organization forces. ME1 Ince and his team rapidly jumped into
action to render aid to injured personnel. Upon arriving on the
scene, ME1 Ince identified three policemen with severe wounds
sustained from gunfire and explosive device detonations that
required immediate intervention at the incident. Amidst the chaos,
ME1 Ince quickly began to triage the critically injured patients and
provide emergency medical care. ME1 Ince's extremely swift medical
actions, calm demeanor, and unparalleled decision-making in chaotic
and austere conditions were extraordinarily heroic, brought great
credit upon the Coast Guard, and highly merit the 2025 Armed
Services YMCA Angel of the Battlefield Award
3. Recipients of this award will be automatically nominated
for the DHS Lifesaving award sponsored by the DHS Chief Medical
Officer and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United
States (AMSUS) Lewis L. Seaman Enlisted Award for Outstanding
Operational Support. I applaud all the nominees for their
accomplishments and their Commanding Officers and supervisors for
taking the time to submit well-deserved nominations. I encourage all
leaders to recognize their high performing enlisted medical
professionals by nominating them next year for the 2026 AOTB Award.
This year's awardees demonstrated outstanding professionalism in
carrying out their duties. Bravo Zulu for a job very well done.
