1. On 06 May 2025, the Supreme Court of the United States granted
the U.S. Government's requested stay of the preliminary injunction
in Shilling v. United Sates. Therefore, in accordance with REF (A)
and in alignment with REFs (B) and (C), the Coast Guard is resuming
implementation of the transgender service policy guidance announced
in REF (E). REF (F) is canceled.
2. Effective immediately, all new enlisted and officer accessions
for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria, as well as all
unscheduled, scheduled, or planned medical procedures associated
with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for Service
members, are paused.
3. For the purposes of this guidance, these procedures include
unscheduled, scheduled, or planned genital reconstruction surgery
associated with gender transition, gender affirming surgery, sex
reassignment surgery, or newly initiated gender-affirming hormone
therapy.
4. The Service remains engaged with the Department of Defense
to ensure alignment and clarity as transgender service policy
continues to evolve. The Coast Guard recognizes the service and
commitment of all personnel, including those with a diagnosis or
history of gender dysphoria. All members will continue to be treated
with dignity and respect.
