Mariners are advised of the ongoing response efforts in Garden Island Bay. The following Temporary Safety Zone remains in effect.

Temporary Safety Zone – Garden Island Bay |
The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port New Orleans, under the authority of the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, will be establishing a safety zone in the Garden Island Bay area of Louisiana, on the western edge of the Pass A Loutre State Wildlife Management Area, to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from an oil and natural gas discharge.
All vessels are prohibited from entering within a 1 nautical mile radius of the leaking wellhead, located at 29-04' 28.919" N 089-10' 48.720"W. A visual representation of the 1 nautical mile safety zone is provided below:
Mariners are advised that containment boom, oil skimmers, and other oil spill response assets could block or impede passage through Cadro Pass, Dennis Pass, Wright Pass, and Old Dennis Pass. Response vessels and assets are exempt from this safety zone.
Mariners are encouraged to report any observations of oil to the National Response Center at 800-424-8802 and any observation of impacted wildlife to Wildlife Hotline Phone Number at 832-514-9663. Media should direct inquiries to well59response@gmail.com.
