1. In accordance with REF (A) and in alignment with REF (B), the
Coast Guard is pausing all new accessions for individuals with a
history of gender dysphoria, as well as all unscheduled, scheduled,
or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or
facilitating a gender transition for Service members.
2. For the purposes of this guidance, these procedures include
unscheduled, scheduled, or planned genital reconstruction surgery
associated with gender transition, gender affirming surgery, sex
reassignment surgery, or newly initiated gender-affirming hormone
therapy.
3. Individuals with gender dysphoria have volunteered to serve our
country and will be treated with dignity and respect. We continue
to work with our counterparts in the DOD to develop policy and
guidance regarding service by members with a current diagnosis or
history of gender dysphoria. Additional guidance will be forthcoming
and will be communicated to the workforce as expeditiously as
possible.
