SUBJ: 2025 SILVER ANCIENT MARINER SELECTION
A. Cutter Recognition and Heritage Programs, COMDTINST 1650.20A
1. The incumbent Silver Ancient Mariner, BMCM Michael Burch, is
scheduled to retire this summer. The selection process to identify
the 16th Silver Ancient Mariner is underway.
2. The Ancient Mariner Designation was established in 1978 to honor
those who chose the responsibilities of a Cutterman and follow the
path of service at sea. This designation not only recognizes
seagoing longevity but also extols the officer and enlisted
Cutterman whose personal character and performance standards honor
the most venerable practitioners of seamanship and reflect our
Core Values.
3. The Office of Cutter Forces (CG-751) requests members who meet
ALL criteria listed below contact the POCs listed in para. 5 below
no later than 07 FEB 2025:
a. an enlisted member; and
b. designated a permanent Cutterman prior to 07 FEB 2003; and
c. has 10 years cumulative sea duty; and
d. if selected, would remain on active duty for at least one year
after designation.
4. A relief ceremony will be held in New Orleans on May 15, 2025 in
conjunction with BMCM Burch's retirement.
