SUBJ: NOMINATIONS FOR CY 2024 EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARDS
A. Recognition Programs, COMDTINST 1650.26A
1. This ALCOAST is the annual solicitation for nominations for the
CY 2024 Excellence in Customer Service Awards.
2. PURPOSE: This recognition program is intended to encourage and
reward units, teams, or individuals delivering Coast Guard mission
support who demonstrate a commitment to providing superior service
to their customers, leading to clearly tangible results.
3. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
a. The Excellence in Customer Service Awards will be awarded at
minimum to one large unit, one small unit, one team, and two
individuals each year. Any Coast Guard unit and any active duty
member, reservist, or civilian employed by the Coast Guard may be
nominated, subject to the following guidance:
(1) A large unit is defined as having a Personnel Allowance
List (PAL) greater than 100.
(2) A small unit has a PAL with 100 or fewer.
(3) The individual category will include one junior-level
and one senior-level award recipient (junior level is E-1 to E-6
for military members and GS-11 and below for civilians; senior
level is E-7 to O-6 for military members and GS-12 and above for
civilians).
b. A nominee must have demonstrated superior performance and
responsiveness to customers needs in at least one of the
following areas to be considered for this award:
(1) Outstanding communication skills and initiative while
addressing customer needs.
(2) Innovative thinking to develop methods or processes that
improve service delivery.
(3) Superb technical acumen and expertise while delivering a
service.
c. A nominee must have improved operational outcomes or Service
readiness in one of the following ways:
(1) Providing timely and responsive support.
(2) Initiating or developing a solution to meet operational
requirements.
(3) Accomplishing measurable improvements in the speed of
delivery or quality of a service.
(4) Improving the integration of support services across
mission support product and service lines.
4. GUIDELINES:
a. To nominate a unit, submit a memorandum, including a Summary
of Actions and Impacts, drafted in accordance with the memorandum
template, which can be found here:

b. Although both operational and mission support units
may initiate a nomination, customers from primarily operational
units are highly encouraged to submit nomination packages. To
encourage submissions, operational units may submit nominations
without flag approval. Mission Support units are required to submit
nominations by routing a nomination memorandum through the first
flag in their chain of command for approval.
c. Approved memorandums should be submitted to the Mission
Support Integration Office (DCMS-5) via the following link no

5. SELECTION: DCMS will convene a board in April 2025 to review
nominations, seek customer input (as appropriate) and select
awardees.
6. PRESENTATION: DCMS staff will coordinate the presentation of
awards. Recipients will receive engraved plaques.
