EXCELLENCE IN DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP AWARDS

1. The Offices of Employee Engagement and Culture (DPR-4) and
Leadership (DCMS-DPR-5) are accepting nominations for the 2025
Coast Guard Inspirational Leadership Awards, Navy League Leadership
Awards, and Leadership and Excellence in Diversity Awards. Commands
and staff directorates are invited and encouraged to submit
nominations for each of these prestigious awards, which recognize
Coast Guard personnel who demonstrated outstanding leadership,
fostered a culture of diversity, mentored personnel, led and
motivated by example, while exemplifying the Coast Guard's Core
Values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty during CY2024.
2. Selecting and recognizing high performing leaders is a Service
imperative that supports individual and unit development, as well
as retention and recruitment efforts. Being nominated for or winning
these awards should positively impact future personnel reviews,
assignments, and promotions and advancements. Historically, previous
winners have gone on to serve in significant leadership roles across
the organization. Nominating commands are encouraged to document
nominations and selections using all appropriate methods such as a
Form CG-3307 (PD-06 - General Positive), personnel awards, OERs
and EERs.
3. The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, 03 March 2025.
4. Nominations are being accepted for the following award
categories:
    a. Inspirational Leadership Awards:
       (1) CAPT John G. Witherspoon (Officers, one Active Duty and
one Reserve member selected)
       (2) MCPO Angela M. McShan (E-7 only, one Active Duty and one
Reserve member selected)
       (3) Mr. George R. Putnam (Civilian Appropriated or
Non-Appropriated Funded Employee)
       (4) COMO Charles S. Greanoff (Auxiliary Flotilla Commander)
    b. Navy League Leadership Awards:
       (1) CAPT David H. Jarvis (Active Duty Officer)
       (2) SM1 Douglas A. Munro (Active Duty Enlisted)
    c. Leadership and Excellence in Diversity Awards:
       (1) MCPO Pearl Faurie Women's Leadership Award (Female Active
Duty or Reserve Enlisted Member, E-4 to E-8)
       (2) CAPT Dorothy Stratton Women's Leadership Award (Female
Active Duty or Reserve Officer W-2 to O-4)
       (3) CAPT Edward R. Williams Coast Guard Award for Excellence
in Diversity (Female or Male Active Duty or Reserve Officer W-2
to O-4)
5. Winners will receive the following:
    a. E-6 and below SM1 Douglas A. Munro Navy League Leadership
Award winner will receive a merit advancement. If the winner is
advanced to E-7, the member will be required to remain on active
duty for two years from the effective date of their advancement
per Section 3.A.21.c of REF (A).
    b. Winners of the CAPT Dorothy Stratton and MCPO Pearl Faurie
Awards will be invited to attend the Joint Women's Leadership
Symposium (JWLS). Travel costs will be funded by DPR-4.
    c. The winner of the CAPT Edward Williams Award will be invited
to attend the National Naval Officer's Association (NNOA). Travel
costs will be funded by DPR-4.
    d. Navy League Leadership Award winners will attend the annual
Navy League convention. Travel costs will be funded by the Navy
League.
6. The policy for these awards is outlined in REF (B); however,
detailed eligibility requirements and specific nomination guidelines
are outlined on the COMDT (CG-DCMS-DPR) website:

7. When drafting nominations, it is important to remember:
    a. Nominations must clearly outline examples and challenges,
specific actions and accomplishments, and the impact that speaks
to the award's criteria.
    b. Commands should include specific examples of exceptional
leadership that includes coaching, mentoring, volunteering, and
community service outside of the nominee's Coast Guard duties.
    c. Nominations should clearly indicate whether candidates are
an Active Duty or Reserve member.
    d. Strict adherence to the eligibility requirements and
guidelines is required; any incomplete package received will not
be considered.
8. All nomination packages must be sent by email to:

9. A panel will be convened in late March 2025 to select the winners
and runners up. Winners, runners up, and nominating units will be
announced via ALCOAST.
