1. This ALCOAST announces the release of the update to the
Acquisition Workforce (AWF) Career Guide. This Career Guide
will help acquisition professionals navigate the wide
variety of careers fields available to the AWF within the
acquisition enterprise, understand what it means to be an
apprentice, journeyman, or master level acquisition professional,
and provide the information needed to attain and maintain these
levels of professional proficiency. Coast Guard leadership is
committed to ensuring the AWF is equipped with the tools needed
to be successful in a career as a Coast Guard acquisition
professional. It is only through the expertise and commitment
of the AWF that our Service can provide our operating forces
with new, revitalized, and upgraded assets that consistently
deliver high quality services in order to meet our existing
demands and prepare our service for future challenges.
2. The Acquisition enterprise offers a wide variety of career
fields and challenging career paths. AWF members are encouraged
to use this career guide as they pursue or continue along their
path as an acquisition professional. It highlights the diverse
backgrounds essential to a successful acquisition workforce, with
